A Day of Catching with Kellie: Round 2 GREY DEATH

A few Miles off Hatteras Village, Hatteras NC

A few Miles off Hatteras Village, Hatteras NC

I mentioned yesterday that the 27th catch, was the most Grey’s that I have ever caught in one day, a low ball estimate would be well over 150-200 Fish.  The most Greys I have ever caught before this was 2.  That’sright 2.  Go figure that this year they DMF, puts a One a day Kill Limit on them.  That is the main reason I let them live, not worth the effort of puttin them on Ice.

Planned to take Kellie on a Grey Trout Massacre Adventure because I plumb wore them out the day before.. It is about a 3 mile paddle from the Roost to the Grey Death Marker on my On board GPS, so we took off late from the Marina at around 9 a.m.  With a SE wind it puts the wind @ your back which makes for incredible speeds on the way out and lots of chop and wind in your face on the way back.  Hitting 5.2 knts on the way out was great as we go to my GPS way-point in no time.

First one for Kellie many more to come....

First one for Kellie many more to come....

After setting Anchor in the exact location as the day before, we were both hooked up on our first casts..  I knew it was on at that Point, and just for fun we decided to keep count of our fish catches.. Which is not easy to do when your catching one every cast.

We were out and out Destroying Grey Trout, four or five would come up to the Yak with the one you all ready had hooked, it was an amazing sight for sure.  Not as steady as the day before but Kellie caught 31 Greys and One Lizard Fish..

Another Nice one for Kellie....We were surounded by power boats at this point and they were disrupting the school. We were catching them still on the Magic Fish Bites Xtreme while they watched, and eventualy left..

Now I don’t care who you are but 31 Greys is an awesome feat for anyone, and I would venture to guess that not too many folks get to catch 31 Trout in a 4 hour period.  We left them biting, all agrins, with our paddle back to head on winds Back to Teach’s Lair Marina..

By the Way I ended up with 51 Greys and a 16 inch flounder…. What a day on the water …. When ya find them once it’s Luck, when ya find them twice, your real lucky…

Watching Kellie pull in fish after fish was a blast, memories for a life time we made….

If you all want to do this get up with me I believe I have found them and they will not go far. GPS said we did 6.23 Miles, easy anyone could do it.

A beautiful day down in Hatteras Village..

A beautiful day down in Hatteras Village..

Been so long since I have done an Adventure, I think I may have forgotten how.. Yeah right!!  With 13 straight days of SW winds gusting to 40, I had little to do except study Maps of the Inlet.  In my head I picked a couple of spots out to try, and instead of heading right to spots where I have all ready caught fish, I was gonna break new ground down in Hatteras.

When you are Trout Fishing be it Greys, or Specks, you look for the same kind of structure.  Broken Bottom (a bottom that changes from Sand to Grass) and steep drop-offs.  After studying the Maps I headed northwest out of the Marina  to a spot a few miles off Hatteras Village.

The First Victim

The First Victim

Saw the Structure that I was looking for and set anchor, it was not long before my Trout rod started thumpin, it was about 8:30 a.m.  First Grey in da Yak.  It was not long before I discovered that it was a Grey on every cast.

FishBites Trout Killa

All on a 3/16 ounce Lead Colored Red Eye Lead Head and Fish Bites Xtreme 3.5 white shrimp.

Now everyone gets on bites, and I’ve had some good ones but for five and one half hours I caught Grey trout to 17 inches.  Most were in the 15 inch range and some were smaller, but all were keepers.  This was a phenomenal Bite, I caught more Greys today, then I have if ya added up all the Greys I have caught in my Life.

After a while of Catching them on the White Shrimp Fish Bites Xtreme, I switched up on them with the New Penny Shrimp Fish Bites Xtreme.  They could not leave it alone.  The hole time I am also Fishing Fresh Shrimp on a popping cork rig, that went un-touched.

Conditions Look pretty Much the same for Tomorrow, and Kellie’s off so we are hitting the same spot that I fished today.   It’s keyed into my OnBoard GPS Unit as GREY DEATH… And there Will Be  More GREY DEATH Tomorrow..  Until then ….

The Harmony Car Top Carrier that Kellie got worked like a champ, even at speeds over 70 mph..

Borrowed Kellie’s car top carrier and loaded the BE-LO-ME mp on my Acura for its trip to its new home.. Teach’s Lair Marina… Since the bite is non-existent in Buxton, I had to make the move.. The proximity to the Inlet and the constant moving water makes it a great place to launch out of..
