Having the 3 day experience of following this same story during the Thanksgiving wash out..the current forecast probably won't allow enough water again until Monday or Tuesday..Hope I am wrong.

Is a reliable ferry route. If they can run ferries from Hatteras to Ocracoke, don't tell me they can dredge and maintain a reliable ferry from Oregon Inlet to Rhodanthe. Hell of a lot shorter than stumpy point.

    With what money???

This place cannot afford to keep the channel open at OI, which generates over 600 million a year..

No way in he!! your are going to get a channel for " just in case"...

The sad reality is the frailty of the island is growing..

For 5000 year round residents and a 5 month tourist season...

you cannot expect but so much..and I am curios to see how long in the coming years the Feds continue to support.

Dare might be a donor County...but they are not that much of a donor..

New bridge, new inlets, dredging and so-on..Every body is broke and at some point..sh!t is going to hit the fan.

    OH yeah

$s to keep a just in case channel open from OI to Rodanthe

In addition to $s to keep the road open from OI to Rodanthe.

I can hear the environ response to that approach.
    Cheers Ya'll

Jim said the idea is to bankrupt DOT with band aide approaches until they give up and move to a full ferry service and no bridge.

Would not surprise me if the environs are hoping for that. Ferry would limit the number of humans who can get there.

I say removal of humans is the environs real goal for the area.

Made it there and back. Going out sat weren't bad, coming back was no fun. 4 hour trip took 7.5, as the ferries were not running overnight on Sat, had to wait until dawn Sunday before they loaded. Lively ride across the sound. Glad I was able to check my stuff, lost a roof vent. Made a temp. patch, but gonna wait for the road before I'm back to complete the repair.

The tri-villages are truly messed up. Literally tons of stuff piled on the roadside. Gonna take a long time for those villages to recover.
